In our family, we break the Yom Kippur fast with comfort food — the simpler, the better! We've found that serving a pot of soup and a platter of deli-style comfort food provides a satisfying break fast that is easy on the stomach. Plus, it's all super easy to make ahead.
Before we jump in, a quick thank you to our sponsor, whose support makes it possible for me to share these recipes with you each week.

Unbiased News Made For You
Keeping up with the news shouldn't feel like a full-time job. 1440 gives you the day's most important stories in a clear, easy-to-digest, unbiased way.
We cover what's happening in politics, business, culture and more. No spin, no agenda; just the facts you actually need, in five minutes or less.
Homemade Chicken and Noodles: You'll need to start a couple of days beforehand on making these homemade noodles, but I promise it's worth it! The soup part of this dish can be made ahead and chilled or frozen until the evening you serve it. Simply warm up the soup, add the noodles (and peas if you like them), and you'll have a starchy, delicious pot of comfort food in less than 30 minutes!
Coffee Cake Cupcakes: Delicious miniature sour cream coffee cakes decorated with a vanilla icing glaze. These would be great for a break-fast spread, if you're including dairy in the mix!
Crunchy Pickled Salad: This pickle-flavored salad is an undiscovered gem in my recipe collection! Make it a day or two ahead and chill, then pull it out of the fridge when you're ready to serve. The flavors improve over time.
Mushroom Barley Soup: If you're in the mood for something meatless and more traditional, this mushroom barley soup can be made ahead or frozen. That way all you need to do is heat and serve! It's hearty, nourishing, and delicious.
Pineapple Raisin Noodle Kugel: Kugel is always welcome after a long Yom Kippur fast… its sweet, creamy, satisfying flavor just seems right! This one contains dairy, so if you're keeping kosher, you'll want to reserve it for a vegetarian meal.
Wishing those of you who observe the holiday a meaningful fast, and a new year filled with countless blessings! Love great reads? Find even more newsletters to enjoy.
In the meantime, I would love to connect on Instagram.
