Dear Friends,

As we enter another week of winter holidays, my mind is on ways to make classic dishes a little more unique. One of my favorite ways to add a little excitement to a meal is by adding date honey, also known as date syrup or silan. I've included my recipe for this tasty condiment below, as well as a couple of recipes it works especially well in. I'm also highlighting some recipes that incorporate citrus, which is right in season.

DATE HONEY SYRUP - This Middle Eastern condiment (also known as silan) can take the place of maple syrup or honey in many recipes, adding a depth of flavor to everything it touches. I often use it to liven up savory dishes or to enhance desserts. RECIPE HERE or PIN IT for later.
CHALLAH FRENCH TOAST - My favorite recipe for Challah French Toast is made with a secret ingredient– banana! The addition of a ripe banana to the coating adds healthy sweetness for a light and fluffy texture. It's even more decadent when topped with date syrupRECIPE HERE or PIN IT for later.
HERB BRAISED LAMB SHANKS - Lamb shanks slow braised with herbs and lemon to create a deliciously tender result. Perfect for cold weather or as the centerpiece of a special occasion or holiday meal. RECIPE HERE or PIN IT for later.
BUTTERNUT SQUASH AND CRISPY KALE BAKE - Delicious roasted butternut squash is baked together with crispy kale to create an utterly addicting side dish. This simple recipe only requires a baking sheet and mixing bowl! RECIPE HERE or PIN IT for later.
HOW TO ROAST AND PEEL CHESTNUTSWho needs an open fire to roast chestnuts? You can do it yourself using your oven! Roasting and peeling chestnuts is a relatively simple process. Homemade roasted chestnuts will fill your home with a wonderful aroma– they smell like the winter holidays! VIDEO AND TUTORIAL HERE or PIN IT for later.
DATE GLAZED ORANGE CHICKEN - This Date Glazed Orange Chicken is a delicious example of how date honey can take a dish from tasty to amazing. This combination of citrus, thyme and date flavors is truly unique and makes for a great holiday entree! RECIPE HERE or PIN IT for later.
ORANGE CREAMSICLE COCKTAIL - Markets are teeming with sweet winter oranges right now. Sounds like a great excuse to enjoy a citrus-inspired cocktail, don't you think? This one could not be easier to make.
